Spirulina supplementation may be a logical, nutritional approach for people 50 years of age and older who are often subject to weakened immune systems and anemia, according to a human clinical study conducted by M. Eric Gershwin, MD, and a team of scientists from University of California Davis and Cyanotech.

Hawaiian Spirulina Pacifica from Cyanotech was administered to 30 subjects 50 years of age and older for 12 weeks. Key blood chemistry markers were measured at 0, 6 and 12 weeks. The study found a steady increase in hemoglobin in both sexes, with women benefiting more rapidly from Spirulina supplementation. The study also found improved immune blood markers in the majority of subjects. For further information: www.cyanotech.com
